Skin Treatments Pre Care
Start here, then follow the written instructions for your booked treatment. Timing differs by procedure and skin history; a treatment may require a longer pause than this general checklist. Ask us before changing prescribed products or medication.
- Sun and tanning: Avoid intentional sun exposure and sunbeds for at least 2 weeks before treatment. Tell us about a recent tan or sunburn; your appointment may need to be postponed.
- Waxing and hair-removal creams: Avoid facial waxing and depilatory creams for at least 7 days. Some treatments require a longer break: The Perfect Derma Peel requires 2 weeks without waxing, while light-based hair reduction requires at least 4 weeks without waxing or plucking.
- Actives and prescription skincare: Contact us at least 10 days before your appointment to confirm whether and when to pause tretinoin, other retinoids, exfoliants, acids, topical antibiotics, or other potentially irritating products. Our general pre-care plan may call for a 10-day pause; your individualized instructions set the actual dates. Do not stop prescribed products without advice from your prescribing clinician.
- Daily SPF: Use broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every day, including winter and when spending time near sunny windows indoors. Add shade, a hat, and protective clothing outdoors.
- Exercise: As part of our general preparation plan, avoid the gym and strenuous exercise for 24 hours before your appointment. Arrive with calm, cool skin.
- Other procedures: Avoid laser or IPL for at least 2 weeks before treatment and tell us about all recent procedures. Longer spacing may be needed; The Perfect Derma Peel guidance calls for 4 weeks after laser or resurfacing procedures.
- Aspirin and anti-inflammatory medication: Contact us at least 3 days beforehand to review these medicines. Do not stop prescribed aspirin, blood thinners, or anti-inflammatory medication on your own. Your prescribing clinician must approve any change; a pause is not required for every treatment.
- Shaving: For facial skin treatments, avoid shaving on the day to reduce irritation. If dense hair needs removal, ask about shaving the day before. Hair-reduction appointments have separate shaving instructions; follow the plan for your booked service.
Accutane / isotretinoin
Our practice requires a minimum of 6 months after finishing Accutane (isotretinoin) before advanced facial treatments, followed by an individual suitability assessment. Tell us your last dose date before booking. This is our conservative practice policy; medical and manufacturer guidance varies by procedure. Do not stop isotretinoin to qualify for treatment.
